![]() Ervin Wright came to Green County, Iowa, in 1852, three years after the arrival of the first white settlers there. He immediately began preaching the good news of Jesus Christ, not only in the area that eventually became Green County but also in surrounding areas. The church of Christ in Jefferson (the county seat) is still meeting together and serving the Lord all these years later. David Wright grew up in the Jefferson congregation. Ervin was his great-great-grandfather. David comes from a large family--six brothers and three sisters. For four years (grades 2-5) he attended a residential school for blind children in Vinton, Iowa. There he learned to read Braille and navigate with a long white cane. David's family moved to Fort Madison, Iowa, in 1977. After graduating from high school there, he went to Montgomery to become a Bible major at Alabama Christian College (now Faulkner University). In 1985 David earned his degree, married Carolyn, and became a full-time Gospel preacher. Carolyn grew up in Trinity, Alabama, a small community in the Huntsville-Decatur area. She was born into a large family too--four brothers and two sisters. After graduating from high school and cosmetology school, Carolyn worked for a few years as a hairstylist before deciding to go to college. It was at Alabama Christian that she met David. David and Carolyn are blessed with two children. Hannah was born in 1986. In the spring of 2009 she graduated from Freed-Hardeman University with a history degree. Hannah and her husband, Casey Haynes, live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Casey serves the Palm Beach Lakes congregation as a youth minister. Josh, David and Carolyn’s son, was born in 1988. He attended Freed-Hardeman University for two years and then transferred to Harding University. However, he plans to return to FHU in January of 2010. The Wright family has worked for churches of Christ in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. David was the pulpit minister in Parsons, Tennessee, for 10 years. He and Carolyn moved from there to Jeffersonville, Indiana, on September 29, 2008. They are both delighted to be working with the loving Meigs Avenue congregation. |
